NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Maryville College STUNT will compete in the College Stunt National Championship Tournament in the program's first year of competition.
The Scots will compete against Misericordia in the first round on April 23rd at 1:30 PM. This will be the first meeting between the two schools.
"I can't overstate how exciting it is for our STUNT to make the national tournament and be ranked as a top 5 program in year one," Director of Athletics Dr.
Andrew Wu said. "With the NCAA adding a STUNT national championship for next year, already being in this position bodes extremely well for the program as it continues to grow. Congratulations to Coach King and the whole team on an amazing accomplishment this year!"
Maryville STUNT finished the regular season with a record of 9-4, and ranked #5 in the nation (were previously ranked as high as #4), and are on a five-game winning streak. Misericordia finished with a 7-7 record and most recently fell to East Strousberg University on March 31.
"I'm beyond thrilled that, in our very first year, we've qualified for a national championship tournament!" Head Coach
Jasmin King said. "It hasn't been easy starting a brand-new program in such a new sport, especially with all the learning and teaching involved in how it differs from traditional cheerleading. But this team has embraced every challenge."
"Our athletes take so much pride in this program, and I do too, and that's what's carried us to this point. We may be small, but we're incredibly driven, and I can't wait to see what the future holds for us."
The tournament, slated to take place between April 23 - 26, will be held at Lipscomb University in Nashville.
