DEMOREST, Ga. – Madelyn Miller gave Maryville an early lead, but Piedmont answered in the second half as the Scots played the Lions to a 1-1 draw Sunday evening at Walker Athletic Complex.

Maryville controlled much of the offensive action, finishing with a 17-11 advantage in shots and a 5-4 edge in shots on goal. The Scots also earned five corner kicks compared to two for Piedmont.

Miller put Maryville on top in the 36th minute. The sophomore forward found the back of the net at the 35:32 mark for her second goal of the season, giving the Scots a 1-0 advantage heading into halftime.

Piedmont Answers in Second Half

Maryville continued to create chances after halftime, with Elly Leander and Katie Corley each putting shots toward the Piedmont goal early in the second period.

The Lions eventually found the equalizer in the 76th minute. Madison Johnson scored unassisted at 75:54 to pull Piedmont even at 1-1.

The Scots continued to push for a second goal in the final minutes. Lexi Maciejewski and Corley each recorded late shot attempts, while Katie Cotten forced Piedmont goalkeeper Lana Cummings into a save with just under five minutes remaining.

Neither team could find the decisive goal, sending the match to its final whistle tied at one.

Silva Comes Up Big

Paige Silva played all 90 minutes in goal for Maryville and made three saves, including a pair in the second half. Piedmont's Cummings recorded four saves as the two goalkeepers kept the match level after each team found the net once.

Maryville's defense limited Piedmont to 11 total shots, while the Scots generated 17 attempts of their own. Elly Leander, Madison McDonald and Katie Corley each recorded multiple shots for Maryville.

The draw moves Maryville to 3-1-4 on the season, while Piedmont is now 3-1-2.

Maryville returns home Friday, Oct. 2, to open its first season in the Southern Athletic Association with a 5 p.m. matchup against Millsaps at the Maryville College Soccer Complex.
