MARYVILLE, Tenn. — Maryville women's soccer opened Southern Athletic Association play in emphatic fashion Friday night, scoring four times in the first half before adding two more after halftime in a 6-0 shutout of Millsaps at the MC Soccer Complex.
The Scots (4-1-4, 1-0-0 SAA) controlled the match from the opening whistle, finishing with a 24-3 advantage in shots and putting 12 attempts on frame. Maryville also held an 13-2 edge in corner kicks.
Four Goals in 37 Minutes
Maryville needed less than 10 minutes to break through.
Katie Corley converted a penalty kick in the 10th minute to give the Scots a 1-0 lead. Corley finished the night with a goal and an assist while putting one of her two shots on target.
Katie Cotten doubled the advantage in the 26th minute, finding the back of the net at 25:28.
The Scots continued to pour on the pressure, with Addison Baggett making it 3-0 just 3:48 later. Lexi Maciejewski provided the assist on Baggett's goal.
Lolah Wunderlich capped the first-half scoring in the 37th minute, sending Maryville into halftime with a 4-0 advantage.
Wunderlich Adds Another
Wunderlich wasn't finished.
The sophomore midfielder struck again at 55:59, this time with Ruby Saylor supplying the assist. Wunderlich finished with four shots and put all four on goal, scoring twice for the Scots.
Maryville added its sixth goal in the 67th minute when Maciejewski found the net to cap the scoring.
Maciejewski finished with a goal, an assist and three shots on target, while Cotten recorded a goal on four shots.
Scots Pitch Shutout
The offensive production was matched by another strong defensive performance.
Paige Silva started in goal and played the opening 45 minutes before Trinity Atkinson took over for the second half. The duo combined for the shutout, with Atkinson making Maryville's lone save of the night.
Millsaps managed just three attempts across the 90 minutes.
The six goals also marked a balanced scoring effort, with four different Scots finding the net and Wunderlich becoming the only player with multiple goals.
