Jimmy Reese

Jim Reese began serving as a volunteer assistant coach for the Maryville Scots baseball program in 2007. Besides coaching first base, Reese has coached infielders, outfielders and catchers. He has also worked well with numerous hitters. Being enthusiastic and intense is just a part of his love for the game and this program and Maryville College.

Reese grew up and attended high school in Millville, New Jersey. Reese is an alumnus of Maryville College, having graduated in 1981. As a member of the Scots baseball team, Reese played shortstop and batted leadoff during his four years. He was awarded the Ken Stinnett Coaches Award in his junior and senior seasons and chosen MVP and team captain during his senior campaign. A .310-to-.320 hitter, Reese played every game during his four years and averaged less than five errors per season.

Reese went on to graduate school at UT in Urban Planning. His employment stops include Blount County Planning Director, realtor, economic development planner, and Interim Youth Director.

Prior to coaching at MC, Reese spent 12 years coaching 15-16-year-olds at the local Senior Little League. He has worked with youth through his church for over 25 years, and he feels that both of these coaching experiences are an extension of that ministry.

Reese was honored by the Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association as their 2019 Jim Painter Lifetime Achievement Award honoree. During Homecoming in 2020, Reese was inducted into the Maryville College Wall of Fame. For his hard work and dedication within the MC baseball program, the newly developed clubhouse is named in his honor.

Reese resides in Maryville with his wife, Melanie, and two daughters, Mollianne (MC 2012) and Marykate (ETSU 2014). He is involved in the family business of property management, dealing with the renting of houses and apartments.
