Coach Scott Brumett has served as Maryville College’s Assistant Head Coach and Defensive Line Coach since 2013, bringing a strong background in player development and defensive leadership to the program. Prior to joining Maryville, he gained collegiate coaching experience at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and Brevard College.
A former standout player, Brumett began his collegiate career at East Tennessee State University, where he was a three-year starter at outside linebacker. He led the team in tackles in 2002 and finished second in total stops in 2003. Following the discontinuation of ETSU’s football program, he transferred to the University of North Carolina, where he contributed as a tight end during the 2004 season. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from North Carolina in 2005.
Under Brumett’s leadership, Maryville’s defensive line has consistently contributed to a physical and disciplined defensive unit. His position groups have helped anchor strong defensive performances, emphasizing fundamentals, toughness, and player development.
Brumett began his coaching career at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in 2007 as a defensive assistant, working closely with the outside linebackers. He also contributed to special teams, helping the Mocs rank second in the Southern Conference and 15th nationally in punt return average.
From 2008 to 2011, Brumett served as defensive coordinator at Brevard College, where he led a highly competitive unit. During his tenure, he coached 14 All-South Atlantic Conference selections and guided defenses that ranked among the top three in the conference in total defense in three of four seasons.
Since arriving at Maryville, Brumett has continued to play a key role in building a disciplined and effective defensive front while contributing to the overall success and culture of the program.
