Maryville College Director of Athletics, Andrew Wu, announced on Thursday the addition of Bayliegh Masterson as the new Head Softball Coach, bringing a proven track record of competitive success, player development, and academic excellence to the program.
Wu spoke on the hiring of Masterson:
“Coach Masterson is a winner who brings excellent coaching experience across all three NCAA divisions and elite playing experience in the SAA. Bayleigh has a clear vision for advancing our Softball program, and I’m excited to continue our positive momentum under her leadership.”
Masterson comes to Maryville following a standout season as an Assistant Coach at Barton College (NCAA Division II), where she helped guide the Bulldogs to a top-four finish in Conference Carolinas both in the regular season and tournament play. Her impact was immediate, contributing to a record-breaking season in stolen bases and helping the program achieve its first-ever NCAA regional ranking.
“I want to thank Athletic Director Andrew Wu, President Dr. Bryan Coker, and the rest of the search committee for giving me the opportunity to lead Maryville College Softball,” Masterson said. “The passion and excitement for Maryville College was felt instantly throughout this process, and it is an absolute honor to be joining Maryville College at such an exciting time!”
Before Barton, she served as an Assistant Coach at Murray State University (NCAA Division I) during the 2023-2024 season. At Murray State, she led hitting and infield instruction while helping coach two First Team All-MVC honorees and the MVC Defensive Player of the Year.
Her coaching career began at Hood College, where she spent two seasons as a Graduate Assistant. There, she coached 12 NFCA Academic All-Americans and guided seven student-athletes to All-Conference recognition, including one NFCA All-Region honoree.
As a standout student-athlete at Berry College, Masterson was a four-year starter at shortstop and third base. She was a key contributor to Berry’s 2018 Regional Championship and Super Regional appearance, and the team’s 2021 run to the SAA Conference title game. Her accolades include 3x First Team All-SAA selection, 2x NFCA All-Region honoree, 2019 NFCA Division III Player of the Year Watchlist, and 2021 NFCA Academic All-American
Masterson earned her MBA from Hood College and holds a B.S. in Marketing and Business Management from Berry College. She is originally from Louisville, Kentucky
Masterson continued, “I am lucky enough to have been surrounded by amazing coaches in my career: Cori Thiermann, Terry Burdette, and Melisa Shock. I would like to extend a huge thank you to them for mentoring me and preparing me for this extraordinary opportunity.”
“I also would like to thank my family and fiancé who have supported this dream of mine, and I wouldn’t be able to do this without them. Being named Maryville College Softball’s Head Coach is an absolute honor, and I am filled with thankfulness and excitement to get to lead an amazing group of strong women. We will continue to build on an amazing foundation that has been laid by alumni. We will continue to be leaders on and off the field while competing to be a top program in the Southeast and beyond.”
“I’m honored to be a part of the Maryville College Family. Go Scots!”
