Jimmy Reese has served as a volunteer assistant coach for the Maryville College baseball program since 2007, bringing decades of experience, passion, and institutional knowledge to the Scots. Over his tenure, Reese has coached first base and worked extensively with infielders, outfielders, catchers, and hitters, contributing across every phase of player development. His enthusiasm and intensity reflect a deep love for the game, the program, and Maryville College.
Reese has been part of the most successful era in program history. In recent seasons, the Scots have captured back-to-back Collegiate Conference of the South regular-season championships, surpassed the 30-win mark in consecutive years for the first time in school history, and set the program record for regular-season victories. In 2025, Maryville earned its first NCAA Division III Tournament berth since 1977 and secured a postseason victory at the Lynchburg Regional. Reese’s steady presence and leadership have helped shape the culture and consistency that fueled the program’s rise.
A native of Millville, New Jersey, Reese is a proud alumnus of Maryville College, graduating in 1981. As a player for the Scots, he was a four-year starter at shortstop and the team’s leadoff hitter throughout his career. Reese was named team captain and Most Valuable Player as a senior and earned the Ken Stinnett Coaches Award in both his junior and senior seasons. A consistent .310–.320 hitter, he played every game during his four-year career and averaged fewer than five errors per season, exemplifying durability, reliability, and leadership.
Following his undergraduate career, Reese earned a graduate degree in Urban Planning from the University of Tennessee. His professional background includes service as the Blount County Planning Director, as well as work in real estate, economic development planning, and youth ministry, reflecting a lifelong commitment to community leadership.
Prior to joining the Maryville coaching staff, Reese spent 12 years coaching 15- and 16-year-olds in the local Senior Little League program. He has also worked with youth through his church for more than 25 years, viewing his coaching as an extension of his ministry and mentorship.
Reese’s contributions to baseball and Maryville College have been widely recognized. In 2019, he was honored by the Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association as the recipient of the Jim Painter Lifetime Achievement Award. He was inducted as a member of the 2020 Maryville College Wall of Fame Class, and in recognition of his dedication and long-standing service to the program, the Maryville College baseball clubhouse bears his name.
Reese resides in Maryville with his wife, Melanie. They have two daughters, Mollianne (MC ’12) and Marykate (ETSU ’14). He is also involved in the family property management business, overseeing the rental of houses and apartments in the community.
