Newport News, Va.- The Maryville College volleyball team fell to tournament host Christopher Newport University in straight sets 25-21, 25-16, and 25-22 and was eliminated in the first round of the 2011 NCAA Volleyball regional.
Maryville senior and Great South Player of the Year Kristin Findley displayed her All-South region skills against one of the top programs in the region. Findley posted a match-high 16 kills while concluding her stellar career with a double-double featuring an additional 10 defensive digs.
MC's offense was also enhanced by Kristen Sharp's five kills while Kara Strickland deposited four kills. Strickland was also strong defensively with an additional 13 digs. Senior libero Katherine Nadler added 10 digs to help combat the strong Captain attacks.
Christine Fellows paced CNU with 11 kills on the evening. The Captains will advance to play Salisbury University in the second round tomorrow at 5:30 pm.
Maryville ends the 2011 season with an overall 26-8 record after participating in the program's 10th NCAA regional tournament.
