Box Score 2 The Maryville College volleyball team battled back to defeat the Bishops of North Carolina Wesleyan College by the score of 3-1 on Sunday afternoon in MC's Boydson Baird Gymnasium. The Scots dropped the first set in the USA South challenge by the score of 25-16, but regrouped to sweep the next three sets 25-17, 25-13, and 25-11.
Senior Kara Strickland would not be denied on "Senior Day". The Pleasanton, California native threw down a game-high 21 kills while also excelling defensively posting a double-double effort with 16 digs. Kristen Sharp added nine kills and 11 digs. Senior setter Teri Lind finished with 37 assists while tossing in 13 digs and eight kills. Mallory Bonee and Strickland paced the defense with 16 digs each. Morgan Hall added 11 digs.
Maryville finished their senior tribute with a sweep of LaGrange College to end the day's USA South tri-match. The Scots took the Panthers in three sets by the scores of 25-13, 25-19, and 25-21. Behind Teri Lind's 31 assists, Kara Strickland threw down another 14 kills to paced MC's offense. Kristen Sharp and Kristy Newman each added seven kills while Kelsey Handel tallied eight kills and three blocks. Strickland led the defense with 11 kills, securing over 30 double-double performances during her career.
North Carolina Wesleyan defeated LaGrange 3-0 by the scores of 25-15, 25-18, and 25-17. The Battling Bishops are now 18-8 on the season and 7-1 in USA South challenges. LaGrange falls to 9-17 and 2-6 within the USA South.
Maryville (17-10, 8-1 USA South) will conclude their regular season schedule on the road. Next Friday they will challenge Randolph-Macon College and then take on USA South rivals Mary Baldwin and Methodist in Staunton, Virginia.
