Scots Fight Warriors to a 0-0 Tie

Box Score

It took 110 minutes and still there was no resolution between Maryville's men's soccer team and the Hendrix College Warriors on Friday, August 31st on the campus of Maryville College. The biggest play of the game came in the 11th minute when sophomore keeper Ben Munger (Cullman, AL/Cullman) made a sprawling save to his left on a penalty kick. Munger went on to record ten saves on the afternoon. The Scots best opportunity came in the second overtime when sophomore forward David Lethco (Maryville/Maryville) hit a blistering shot from just inside the 18 yard mark to only have it strike the crossbar and ricochet out.

"We had a lot of young guys playing and we definitely improved as the game went on," said head coach Pepe Fernandez. "Munger was exceptional in goal today, especially in the first half. I was proud of our effort and I think we played a solid first game of the season against a good Hendrix team."

The opening day tie brings Maryville's record to 0-0-1 on the season. The Scots will be back in action Wednesday, September 5th when they travel to take to Atlanta to take on the Eagles of Emory University. Game time is set for 7 pm.
