Box Score After falling behind early, Maryville College's men's soccer team battled but fell short against Christopher Newport on Saturday afternoon in Newport News, Virginia.
CNU wasted little time jumping on the visiting Scots in just the fourth minute of play. Christopher Newport would add a second goal in the 25th minute of play for the final goal of the game. Even though the scoreboard didn't reflect it, there were plenty of bright spots for the Scots. Goalkeeper Ben Munger saved ten shots, including a penalty kick in the second half.
"We played a really good team on the road in a tough environment without two of our better players," said assistant coach Jon Baker. "Munger and our defense were solid after settling into the contest. I was happy with our performance and feel we learned a lot about our young team today and believe the future looks very bright."
The loss drops the Scots to 3-2-1 on the year and 1-1 in USA South competition. Maryville will again be in action on Sunday when they travel to Eastern Mennonite to complete a weekend trip into Virginia. Game time is set for 3:00 pm.
