Box Score 2 The Maryville College volleyball team evened their season record at 8-8 following a 1-3 weekend at the prestigious Emory Invitational in Atlanta, Georgia.
Friday evening saw the Scots drop a pair of grueling five set matches to Randolph Macon and Trevecca.
Against the Yellow Jackets of Randolph Macon, MC lost the first set 18-25 and evened the series with a second set 26-24 come from behind victory. The ODAC school too the third set 20-25 before Maryville forced a fifth and deciding set with a 25-13 fourth set win. Randolph Macon took the match with a 17-15 final set victory.
A tired Scots' lineup next took on Trevecca to conclude Friday's action. MC took a 2-1 set lead after losing the first set 15-25 and wining the next pair of sets 25-22 and 25-19. Trevecca battled back to win 21-25 and took the match in the deciding set 12-15.
Saturday, the Scots rebounded with a three set sweep of Williams College. MC took the match by the scores of 25-23, 25-11, and 25-17.
Maryville concluded the tournament challenge against nationally ranked Emory University (14-2). The Scots fell to Emory 3-0 by the scores of 25-20, 25-15, and 25-20.
Kara Strickland paced MC with eight kills while
Teri Lind,
Jillian Galewski, and
Kristen Sharp each added five kills. Sharp and Strickland combined for 21 digs.
The Scots (8-8) will begin their 2012 USA South schedule next Saturday when they host Christopher Newport University and Greensboro College for a league tri-match beginning at noon on the
Randy Lambert Court in MC's Cooper Athletic Center.
