Box Score In a physical game that saw a pair of yellow cards, Maryville came up short in a 1-0 loss to Methodist on Sunday afternoon on the campus of Maryville College.
The first half was a hard fought battle that saw 15 total shot and only four being on frame. Ben Munger made three saves and the only Maryville shot on frame was stopped by the Methodist keeper. Methodist did hold a slight advantage in corner kick opportunities (5-3).
The second half was more of the same until Methodist was able to find the back of the net off a free kick just outside the box in the 79th minute of play. The Scots would rally, but fall short.
"Our guys played hard today," said head coach Pepe Fernandez. "I'm not happy with the result but our effort was there and we couldn't finish against a good team. We are young, we'll get there."
The loss drops Maryville to 6-3-2 on the year and 3-2 in conference play. The Scots will be back on the pitch on Wednesday as they host Piedmont. Game time is set for 7:00 pm.
