The Maryville College volleyball team rallied for a come from behind victory over USA South foe Covenant College in Lookout Mountain, Georgia on Tuesday evening. The Scots won 3-2 after trailing 2-1 after three sets. MC outpaced the Georgian Scots 26-24, 20-25, 23-25, 26-24, and 15-13 to secure the key league mid-week challenge.
Maryville had four players post double digit kills. Julia Vineyard led the Scots at the net with 13 kills. Abrianna Jones and Kristen Sharp each posted 11 kills with Sharp completing a double-double adding 21 digs on defense. Kelsey Handel also contributed 10 kills. The attackers were well fed with scoring passes by Lauren Bonee (25 assists) and Kristi Bowlin (22 assists). Bowlin also tallied a double-double effort with 12 digs on defense. The Scots defense was led by Mallory Bonee returning 25 digs. Stephanie Gleason added 14 digs.
Covenant falls to 12-9 on the season and 5-4 in USA South action. Maryville advances to 12-15 overall with a 9-0 mark in league challenges. MC will travel back to Covenant on Saturday to challenge USA South foes William Peace and NC Wesleyan. The Scots will then host Piedmont and Martin Methodist in the Boydson Baird Gymnasium on Sunday beginning at 1:00.
