Box Score The Maryville College men's basketball team opened the season with a 75-62 loss to Centre College in Danville, Kentucky on Friday evening.
The Colonels out paced the Scots 38-30 at the half with 50% shooting from the floor. MC's Spencer Shoffner went to the break leading Maryville with 11 points on 4-of-7 shooting while connecting on three treys.
Centre pulled away in the second half while maintaining their 50% shooting from the floor while the Scots finished hitting only 36% from the floor. The Colonels took advantage of free-throw opportunities sinking 22-of-27 shots (81%) from the charity stripe.
Centre (1-0) was led by Donovan Whiteside's 18 points while Blake Scinta dropped 14.
Maryville (0-1) used an inside attack by Jaumonee Byrd and Joey Bodewig. Bryd hit 8-of-14 shots for a game-high 18 points while grabbing a team-high eight rebounds. Bodewig finished with eight points and seven rebounds. Shoffner tallied 13 points on 5-of-12 shooting from the perimeter. Oscar Butler tossed in 10 points from the wing.
The Scots will prepare for their home opener on Thursday, November 21st against Johnson University. Tip-off in the Boydson Baird Gymnasium is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
