MARYVILLE, Tenn. – Maryville College has named Mark Sansone the next head coach of Scots Men's Basketball, the College announced Wednesday. Sansone becomes the seventh head coach in program history.
"I'm excited to welcome Coach Sansone as just the third head coach of our Men's Basketball program since 1980," said Director of Athletics Dr.
Andrew Wu. "Mark is an outstanding fit for our tradition of excellence—a proven winner who prioritizes the growth and well-being of his student-athletes. Fresh off a national championship at Mary Washington, he brings both experience and momentum, and I'm confident his leadership will elevate our program to new heights."
Sansone brings more than 15 years of collegiate coaching experience to Maryville, including a decade-long tenure with the University of Mary Washington, where he most recently helped guide the program to the 2025–26 NCAA Division III Men's Basketball National Championship.
"I would like to thank Athletic Director Dr.
Andrew Wu, President Dr. Bryan Coker, and the search committee for giving me the opportunity to lead the Men's Basketball program at Maryville College," Sansone said. "This program has a rich tradition of success, and I look forward to building on that as we enter the SAA."
Sansone joins Maryville after serving as an assistant coach at Mary Washington for the past 12 seasons. During his time with the Eagles, he contributed to scouting, game and practice planning, recruiting, and fundraising, while helping lead the program to its first NCAA Division III national championship.
"I also want to thank everyone at the University of Mary Washington, especially Coach Marcus Kahn and our student-athletes," Sansone added. "The past 12 years have been the most impactful of my coaching journey, and this opportunity would not be possible without them."
Prior to Mary Washington, Sansone spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Eastern University (2012–14). There, he served as recruiting coordinator and assisted with on-campus visits, scouting reports, film exchange, travel logistics, game and practice planning, academic monitoring, and backcourt development.
Over the course of his career, Sansone has helped develop more than 20 all-conference selections, seven rookies of the year, and six players of the year, along with numerous honors from VaSID, the NABC, and D3hoops.
Sansone earned his Bachelor of Science in Sport Management from Roanoke College in 2011 and later completed a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership at Eastern University.
"I can't wait to get to campus and get to work with our student-athletes and the campus community!"
