Box Score The Maryville College volleyball team snapped a nine match slide with a 3-0 sweep of Covenant College by the scores of 25-21, 25-8, and 25-17 to open their 2013 USA South Athletic Conference schedule.
A pair of 7-3 runs after trailing 8-10 in the first set propelled Mc past the Georgian Scots. Key kills by Madison Coker helped Maryville to the 25-21 first set victory.
The Fighting Scots exploded for a 4-0 start and dashed out to a 15-6 advantage following a trio of kills by Kristen Sharp. A 10-2 run allowed MC to dominated the second set and win 25-8.
Maryville doubled up Covenant 12-6 following a Jillian Galewski and Mary Kate White block assist and rode the momentum toward a 25-17 closing set victory.
Covenant (6-3, 0-1 USA South) was paced by Cora Schroeder, Caroline Cone, and Hannah Rogers. Each collected five kills. Estes Carlson led the Scots on defense with 13 digs.
Maryville (2-12, 1-0 USA South) used an 11kill effort from Kelsey Handel. Julia Vineyard added eight kills and three blocks. Kristen Sharp tallied nine kills while Jillian Galewski finished with five blocks. Lauren Bonee collected 14 assists while Megan Kaylor dished out 10 assists.
Maryville will prepare for the Emory Invitational in Atlanta, Georgia this upcoming weekend.
