Box Score The home opener for the Men's Soccer team at Maryville College didn't disappoint as the Scots scored five goals to down the visiting Wasps of Emory and Henry 5-1 on Saturday afternoon.
It took Maryville less than ten minutes to get on the board as sophomore Alex Waddell to score the first goal of the game and his team leading fourth goal of the season off a corner kick from junior David Lethco. The Scots would score their second goal when sophomore Conner McCarty would find the back of the net from fellow sophomore Patrick Braxton. The Scots would take the 2-0 lead to the half.
A defensive miscue followed by a penalty in the box would give Emory and Henry its only goal of the game on a penalty kick twelve minutes into the second half. The rest of the game was dominated by the Scots.
Maryville would add three more goals with Lethco picking up one from Brent Seltzer to make it 3-1. Scots midfielder and captain Payne Fisher would add the fourth Maryville goal before Seltzer would finish the scoring with the help of Braxton.
Maryville College outshot Emory and Henry 24-5 on the day as well as having ten corner kicks to only one for the visiting Wasps.
"We played well today for most of the game," said legendary head coach Pepe Fernandez. "We scored some nice goals today. It felt good to bury some balls into the back of the net and get ten goals in our first two games."
The Scots are now 2-0 on the young season. Maryville will be back in action on Thursday as they travel to Johnson University. Game time is 4:30 pm.
