Maryville downs USA South North Division leader in five sets, 3-2

The Maryville College Lady Scots continued their dominance within the USA South with a 3-2 win over Meredith College in a North and South Division leader showdown.

The Avenging Angles gave the Lady Scots their toughest USA South match of the year, taking it to five sets. Maryville found themselves down 2-1, before sweeping the final two to gain the win, 25-27, 25-22, 15-25, 25-18, 15-9.

The Lady Scots are now 2-0 this season in five-set matches.

Maryville was led by two double-double efforts in the key USA South match from Kelsey Handel and Morgan Hall.

Hall picked up her second double-double of the day, recording 18 assists and 14 digs. Between the Meredith and Methodist matches, the senior offered up 39 assists and 24 digs on the day.

Handel also had a double-double in the match, producing her second double-digit kill outing of the day. Handel had 13 kills and 12 digs in the match, as she's totaled 23 kills on the day.

Lauren Bonee matched Halls' assists against Methodist, dishing out 18 of her own, while adding eight digs.

The Lady Scots had a plethora of digs on the evening, while holding Meredith at bay. Mallory Bonee led all Maryville players with 25, while Stephanie Gleason and Hall each added 14. Sophia del Campo had 13 digs, as Handel contributed her 12.

Madison Coker had seven block assists on the evening.

The Avenging Angels were led by Karlie Long's double-double of 11 kills and 20 digs.

Emily Hendricks also had an 11-kill outing, as Hannah Blaylock had 34 assists in the five-set match.

Emery McGee had 28 digs.

Maryville crosses the 20-win plateau, as they move their record to 20-8 overall. The Lady Scots are 13-0 in USA South play with only three matches left before the conference tournament.

Meredith falls to 21-7, while holding a 13-3 record within USA South action.

Maryville will travel to Piedmont College on Tuesday night for a 6:30 p.m. start, before traveling to Montgomery, Ala. on Saturday to face off with Huntingdon College at 10 a.m. and LaGrange College at 3 p.m.
