Box Score Oscar Butler compiled 12 points in the second half — including a five-point overtime period — to lead the Maryville College Scots over Sewanee inside Boydson Baird Gymnasium.
Butler bucketed a long trey, while hitting a slashing reverse layup in the overtime to help Maryville to a 69-64 win over the Tigers.
A huge trey by Christian Ford with 23 seconds left on the clock gave Maryville a 57-55 lead, but a cutting layup by Jorden Williams as the buzzer sounded knotted the game at 57-all.
The Scots followed Butler's performance, as the team dropped 5-of-6 free throws in the extra period to earn their second win of the season.
"I thought the difference in the game might have been our bench versus theirs," Head Coach Randy Lambert said. "They have a really nice team. We've got to work on our boards, but we're small. I'm not making any excuses, but we're basically playing four point guards…I think our bigs can do a better job. All-in-all, I'm just glad we got out of there with a win. I could see it slipping away a couple times."
Maryville had 13 bench points to only six from the Tigers, but Sewanee outrebounded the Scots, 42-37.
Maryville shot 40.7 percent from the field and was led by Butler's 19-point effort. He added six rebounds, four assists and a block to his resume for the night.
Jaumonee Byrd had 15 points and eight rebounds, while Spencer Shoffner added nine points, seven rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocks.
Ford had eight points and four assists, while Logan Brewer tallied six points. Tanner Torres added five points, Antonio Jackson, two, and Spencer Peake had three.
Sewanee was led by a 20-point day from Jorden Williams, while Brody Stone had 18 points and eight rebounds. Keshonn Carter had 12 points and nine rebounds.
Maryville moves to 2-1 on the young season, as Sewanee falls to 1-1.
The Scots will play host to another Tennessee rival on Monday night, as they host Johnson University. Tipoff is slated for 7:30 p.m.
