The Maryville College volleyball team advanced to 12-8, 9-2 in USA South action, with a pair of 3-0 sweeps at Mary Baldwin College on Friday evening. The Scots took down the host Squirrels 25-13, 25-21, and 25-17 before defeating Greensboro College 25-9, 25-12, and 25-19.
In the opener, Rachel Kozemko connected for a .304 hitting percentage while depositing a game-high 10 kills. She also placed three service aces while recording nine digs on defense. Nia Haller led the defense with a dozen digs while adding six kills. Madison Coker and Kori Jacot were also consistent at the net with six and five kills respectively. The offense was paced by Taylor Youell who dished out 14 assists. Madison Smith added nine assists.
Against the Pride of Greensboro, Smith led the offense with 23 assists. Her favorite targets were Nia Haller (10 kills), Rachel Kozemko (8 kills), Mary Kate White (8 kills), and Madison Coker (6 kills). Kozemko had a complete performance by adding four service aces and eight digs. Kaitlyn Flickinger led the defensive effort with 19 digs.
The losses moved Mary Baldwin to 2-24 (0-14 USA South) and Greensboro to 6-18 (3-11 USA South).
Maryville will take their two-match win streak to Atlanta on Tuesday to challenge Oglethorpe University. The Scots will return home next Saturday when they host USA South foes North Carolina Wesleyan and William Peace University.
