Haller's career high sends Scots past Stormy Petrels

The Maryville College Volleyball Scots toppled Oglethorpe University for a key South Region victory on Tuesday night, 3-1, behind Nia Haller's stellar performance.

Maryville defeated the Stormy Petrels in four sets, 25-17, 25-21, 21-25, 25-14.

Haller poured in a career high 18 kills on Tuesday afternoon, pummeling her previous record on 11, which came against Mt. St. Joseph this season.

The 18-kill performance is only Haller's fourth double-digit kill effort, as the 5-foot-9 sophomore also tallied five digs and three blocks in the contest. Haller hit at an astounding .472 kill percentage, while scoring 19.5 of Maryville's 64 points.

Kori Jacot posted seven kills, while also hitting at a high percentage with a .467. Jacot also tallied five blocks in the contest.

Rachel Kozemko posted six kills while leading the Scots with 22 digs, two assists, two service aces and a block. Stephanie Gleason added 13 digs for the Scots.

Maryville was led by Taylor Youell, as she posted 19 assists, while Madison Smith added 14 assists and five digs.

For Oglethorpe (5-21), it was all Santreece Stephens. She had 16 kills, while leading Oglethorpe with a .364 kill percentage. Anna Rash was the next closest in kill totals, adding just five for the Stormy Petrels.

Hannah Masiongale had 20 assists to lead the South Region foe, while Savannah Grove (13) and Gianna Zitello (12) led the Stormy Petrels in digs.

Maryville held Oglethorpe to just a .028 kills percentage, while the Scots hit at a .144. Both teams saw a combined 19 blocks in the defensive battle.

Maryville moves to 13-8 on the season with the victory, as they look to bounce back into USA South Athletic Conference play this weekend.

Maryville will host a USA South quad match on Saturday, as they host N.C. Wesleyan at 10 a.m. The Scots will face William Peace at 4 p.m.
