Box Score Methodist University eliminated the Maryville College Scots in the quarterfinals of the USA South Athletic Conference Tournament on Friday afternoon.
Methodist needed only one goal, which game in the 70th minute to oust the Scots, 1-0.
The loss ends Maryville's season, as the Scots post a 14-3-2 mark on the year. The 2015 season marks only the eighth season with 14 or more wins in the history of the Maryville men's program.
In the first half, Maryville and Methodist fought to a 0-0 tie. The Scots and the Monarchs matched each other shot-for-shot, as both teams posted six.
Methodist, however, tallied the only two shots on goal during the first stanza.
The Scots saw Cody VanKerschaever with three shots, while Tim Baker added two. George Davies had the final shot for Maryville.
Methodist saw Seth Harrison and Eirik Nordseth each toss in two shots.
Methodist struck first, though, in the second half, after outshooting the Scots 4-1. Haakan Walhstrom found the goal after dribbling through the box and putting it past the near post in the 70th minute, to give the Monarchs a 1-0 advantage.
Maryville could only muster four shots in the second half for a total of 10, while Methodist tallied five second half shots for 11 in the game, including the game-winner.
The physical contest saw the teams be called for a combined 29 fouls.
Maryville Jon Taylor had three saves in the match for the Scots.
The loss eliminates Maryville from the conference tournament, while Methodist will advance to take on Greensboro College in the championship match tomorrow.
