The Maryville College Volleyball Scots posted two come-from-behind, five-set matches on Saturday afternoon in Lookout Mountain, Ga.
The Scots faced 2-1 deficits in both matches at Covenant College, before defeating LaGrange, 3-2, and Huntingdon, 3-2.
The victories extend Maryville's USA South regular-season win streak to 45 matches with Saturday's wins.
"There were a lot of lessons learned today," Head Coach Kandis Schram said. "I am very proud of this team. The number one lesson was how important it is to play selflessly and what it means to be a Scot!"
Maryville was led by Rachel Kozemko's career-high 17-kill outing against LaGrange College, as the Scots took the win, 25-13, 18-25, 15-25, 25-23, 15-7.
The Scots took the first set with Kozemko and Madison Coker leading the way. The Panthers stole the next two sets, before Maryville would have to fight to stay alive.
Kozemko got the fourth set started with a service ace, as the Scots took a 3-0 lead. They soon extended that lead to 6-3, before three-straight MC errors evened the score at 8-all. Maryville found a 3-0 run of their own behind Coker kills.
The Panthers again knotted things at 15-15, before Maryville and LaGrange traded points to a 17-all score. The Scots took 5-0 run with key kills by Coker, Kozemko and Clara Adams. The Scots would take the set, 25-23.
During the fifth, Maryville and LaGrange fought to a 3-3 tie, before a 8-0 run by the Scots gave Maryville an 11-3 advantage. Julia Vineyard led the run with three kills, as the Scots took the win with a 15-7 final set.
Kozemko posted six digs, three aces, three block assists and one assist in the victory, while Coker tallied 12 kills on a .375 kill percentage. Vineyard also totaled seven kills in the win.
Stephanie Gleason led the Scots with 18 of the squad's 59 digs, while Kaitlyn Flickinger posted 12. Taylorr Youell posted 22 assists, while fellow freshman Adams had 18.
The Panthers (7-5, 0-1 USA South) saw Maggie Ivester and Emily Arnold each have eight kills, while Ivester and Lexi Hall each had 15 digs. Lauren Sanders tallied a double-double 10 digs and 16 assists, while Sara Gore tallied 14 assists.
In the Scots' second game of the day, Maryville posted their second come-from-behind victory by the score of 25-11, 20-25, 23-25, 25-19, 15-12.
Huntingdon College (3-9, 0-2 USA South) took the third set with an error by the Scots for a 25-23 score to send the match to a fourth set.
The Hawks seized the opportunity, jumping out to a 4-1 lead over Maryville, before the Scots could gain momentum and knot the game at 7-all behind a kill from Mary Kate White. Kozemko posted a service ace to give MC its first lead in the fourth set, 8-7.
Maryville would extend that lead to 21-13 behind a kills from Coker and White, as well as a key ace by Adams. The Hawks would post a 5-0 run, before a kill by Kori Jacot would end the threat and send the match to a fifth and deciding set.
Both squad exchanged blows before a kill by Coker tied the set at 7-7. Sophia del Campo led the way, giving Maryville a 12-8 lead and the advantage late. Huntingdon would make a last effort with kills from Ashley Childs and Audrianna Hargitt, but the Scots would prevail, 15-12, with a del Campo kill.
Maryville saw White post 12 kills on an incredible .476 kill percentage. Coker tallied 11 kills, while Kozemko, del Campo and Vineyard each tallied seven.
Flickinger posted 19 digs, while Youell posted nine and 14 assists. Adams led Maryville with 27 assists for the Scots to go with eight digs.
Bria Rochelle posted a double-double 18 kills and 17 digs for the Hawks, while Hargitt had 13. Cora Murchison posted 42 of the 46 assists for Huntingdon, while Lauren Condon had 12 digs.
Maryville College (4-6, 3-0 USA South) will travel to Henrix College for a double-header on Saturday, Sept. 26. The Scots will face Hendrix and Birmingham-Southern College for a 2 p.m. start.
