The Maryville College Volleyball squad fell in two hard matches on Saturday to the hands of Meredith College and Ferrum College.
The Scots fell to Meredith 3-0 early, before their comeback fell just short against Ferrum, 3-2.
Meredith College (15-2, 7-0 USA South) took control during the first match of the day, as the Avenging Angels took the win, 3-0. Averett and Meredith remain as the only two teams in the USA South with an unblemished conference record, as the Scots fell, 26-28, 15-25, 21-25.
Brianne Sidner led the way with 13 kills for Maryville (10-10, 5-3), while hitting .360 in the match. She had two digs, while accounting for 13 points for the Scots.
Julia Vineyard had 10 kills, while hitting .400. She had two digs and two blocks for Maryville, as the duo were the only Scots in double-digit kills.
Saidee McDaniel had another double-double with 26 assists and 11 digs, as she trailed only Kaitlyn Flickinger's 15 digs. Allison Bottts added nine digs for MC. Kori Jacot had three blocks.
For Meredith, it was Caroline Corey with 11 kills. She was the only Angel in double-digit kills, as four other Meredith players tallied seven or more put downs.
Hannah Blaylock had 35 assists, while Keegan Lynch had 16 digs.
Maryville fought back from a 0-2 deficit to knot the match at 2-all. However, the Panthers would take the third set in a late rally and the match.
Maryville fell just short, 24-26, 22-25, 25-20, 27-25, 11-15.
Sidner again led the Scots, compiling a career high 18 kills. She hit .293 for the match, while earning a double-double with 10 digs. She also had two service aces.
Haller had 16 kills, nearing a double-double with nine digs and four blocks. Vineyard had 16 kills and five digs to go with four blocks, as well.
The trio combined for 50 of Maryville's 64 kills.
McDaniel posted a career high 50 assists, earning a double-double with a team-leading 13 digs. Flickinger matched her with 13, while Mackenzie Marcrum had 12.
For the Panthers (7-14, 3-5), it was Hannah Helberty with 13 kills. Jordan Joyce had 12 kills, while Cheyenne Strickland completed the triple double with 10 kills, 35 assists and 17 digs. Sarah Hendrix led Ferrum with 31 digs on defense.
Maryville will host Agnes Scott for a USA South match on Wednesday night. First serve is slated for 7 p.m.
