Haller leads Scots on Senior Day Sweep

Maryville College earned the right to host the opening round of the USA South Tournament on Saturday, as the Scots followed Nia Haller to a 3-1 win over LaGrange.

Haller, who followed her double-double from Friday night, finished with a near triple-double against the Panthers. She helped Maryville to a second-place finish in the USA South West Division with a 10-5 mark, as the Scots won 25-19, 25-13, 14-25, 25-22.

Haller posted 14 kills to go with 11 digs and an astonishing seven blocks. She had one assists and 19.5 points for the Scots.

Behind Maryville's win, they will host the opening round of the USA South Tournament inside Boydson Baird Gymnasium on Tuesday, Nov. 1.

Brianne Sidner had a 10-kill match with a .233 hitting percentage. She also had seven digs, two blocks, one assist and one service ace. Abrianna Jones finished the afternoon with nine kills.

Saidee McDaniel had her second double-double in a row with a 41 assist match. She also had 12 digs to match Kaitlyn Flickinger's total for the contest. Maryville saw five Scots finish in double-figure digs.

Yasmeen Chan had 13 digs, while McDaniel and Flickinger each had 12. Nia Haller had 11 digs, while Mackenzie Marcrum had 10.

For LaGrange, it was Maggie Ivester who had 13 kills for the Panthers. She finished with a double-double with a game-high 17 digs.

Lauren Sanders had 19 assists, while Libby Compton tallied 17. Sterling Ancrum matched Ivester's 17-dig outing, while Sanders had 12 for a double-double. Samantha James had 11 digs for LaGrange.

In the day's second match, Maryville honored their four seniors in Danielle Gehr, Julia Vineyard, Kori Jacot and Abrianna Jones.

The Scots rolled the Mountaineers, 3-0, behind the scores of 25-10, 25-20, 25-20.

Gehr – a senior – led Maryville in the first set, rolling off eight straight points as the server to open up an 8-0 Maryville lead. The Scots would fall behind 8-0 in the second set, before storming back for a 25-20 and the eventual sweep.

Maryville saw Haller and Vineyard lead the way offensively, as both tallied eight kills. Haller hit .389 while posting nine digs in the match, as well. Vineyard hit .185, as she had three digs and a block.

Jones had seven kills, while Sidner tallied six.

McDaniel had 20 assists, while Taylor Youell added 12 of her own. Flickinger had 16 digs for Maryville, while Chan tallied 14.

For Berea, it was Kristin Barnes who had seven kills. Claire Mueller had 16 assists, while Bailie Parker (22) and Shelby Brewer (16) each finished with double-digit digs on the afternoon.

Maryville finished their regular season with a 17-14 mark. They look to the USA South post season on Tuesday.
