Box Score The Maryville College men's basketball team rallied for a 98-95 overtime victory over LaGrange College on Saturday evening behind Jay Bowyer's game-high 29-point performance and Emanuelle Garcia's clutch shooting in the extra period.
The Scots out paced the Panthers 43-32 at the half. LaGrange rallied late to tie the game at the end of regulation with a 51-40 scoring advantage. A Tyler Spicer three-pointer at the 3:12 mark gave Maryville an 83-75 lead, but LaGrange went on an 8-0 run that featured a pair of layups by Elijah Adedoyin.
In overtime, LaGrange jumped out to a 94-88 lead before the Scots' Emanuelle Garcia deposited back-to-back three-pointers making the score 94-94 with 50-seconds remaining. Garcia promptly tallied a key steal and sank four free-throws to seal the tough league road win.
LaGrange (16-7, 7-5 USA South) was paced by Mark Wagner's 22 points while Alex Bonner added 21 points and a game-high eight rebounds. Justyn Olson and Drew Vanderbrook tossed in 17 and 10 respectively.
The Scots (14-9, 5-7 USA South) shot 51-percent (31-for-61) from the floor and 40-percent (10-for-25) from long distance to claim the win. Jay Bowyer was 9-for-15 from the field and 4-for-6 from beyond the arc for 29-points while dishing out a game-high six assists. Spencer Shoffner deposited 18 points while Garcia added 13 points on a trio of treys. Tyler Spicer tossed in 10 points while Logan Brewer and Emier Bowman paced MC on the boards with six rebounds each.
The win helps Maryville's chances to secure a spot in the upcoming USA South Championships, but key challenges against Piedmont and Covenant remain.
Maryville will conclude their 2016 home schedule on Wednesday, February 17th when they host Piedmont College for "Senior Day". A 7:30 p.m. tip-off will be proceeded by a celebration of the careers of Spencer Shoffner, Logan Brewer, and Jaumonee Byrd.
