The Maryville College Volleyball team followed freshman Brianne Sidner and senior Abrianna Jones on Tuesday night, as the duo combined for 21 kills in the Scots' 3-0 sweep of Emory & Henry College.
Maryville took the non-conference match, 25-19, 25-21, 25-13, as the win marks the first sweep of the 2016 season for the Orange and Garnet. Maryville moves to 5-7 on the season, as they look to jump into USA South action this weekend.
The Scots were led by Sidner and Jones who both contributed double-digit kills on Tuesday night.
Sidner tallied 11 kills against the Wasps, hitting at a .333 clip. The freshman also found a service aces and a dig, while scoring a team-leading 12.5 points for Maryville. She also had a block assist.
Jones – a senior – contributed 10 kills on the night with just four errors. She had two block assists and two digs to help lead the Scots to victory.
Nia Haller had four kills – the next closest to Sidner and Jones – while leading the team with 13 digs. Kaitlyn Flickinger had 10 digs, while Saidee McDaniel matched Flickinger to earn a double-double behind a team-leading 28 assists. Yasmeen Chan had six digs and one assists, while Allison Botts had five digs.
The Scots tallied an incredible 10 service aces on the afternoon, as McDaniel had a team-leading three. Haller and Chan each added two, while Sidner, Botts and Dejane Hester-Taylor each contributed one.
For Emory & Henry, it was Tristen Pennington that led the way with eight kills on a .389 kill percentage. She had 12 digs, which was topped by only Emily Hinshaw's 22. Sam McCauley had 14 assists to lead the Wasps, while Abigail Smiley had 10.
Maryville will look to reach .500, as they open conference play inside Boydson Baird Gymnasium. The Scots will face Averett on Friday Sept. 23 at 1 p.m., before taking on Greensboro College at 7 p.m. The will host Methodist at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24, before taking on William Peace University at 7 p.m.
