Double-doubles lift Scots over Methodist, William Peace

The Maryville College Volleyball Scots advanced to .500 on the season with a 3-1 record in USA South action with a conference sweep of Methodist University and William Peace University on Saturday afternoon.

The Scots defeated Methodist, 3-0, before taking down William Peace University, 3-1.

On the weekend, Maryville saw freshman Saidee McDaniel finished the 3-1 weekend with 141 assists, 49 digs and 10 kills, as she tallied three double-doubles in four matches.

Junior Nia Haller led the Scots offensively, amassing a double-double in three of the four matches, as well. She finished with 40 kills, 52 digs, 13 blocks, two assists and one service ace.

Julia Vineyard tallied 55 kills to go with 11 blocks in the Scots' four matches.

Maryville College won their first match of the day, dethroning the Monarchs, 25-20, 25-15, 25-9 in a 3-0 sweep of the USA South foe.

The Scots won the first set close, coming back at one point, before taking the final one behind 16.

The Orange and Garnet saw Haller post her second double-double effort of the weekend, as she tallied 10 kills and 14 digs. The junior had one assist and two blocks, while hitting at a .318 clip for the match.

Senior Vineyard had 11 kills with an impressive .500 hitting percentage. She had four blocks and two digs to lead the Scots, as well.

Brianne Sidner had seven kills, three service aces and two digs, while Abrianna Jones had six kills.

McDaniel had her second double-double of the weekend with 27 assists and 12 digs, as Kaitlyn Flickinger had six assists as the next closest Scot.

Flickinger had five service aces to go with 10 digs, while McDaniel trailed only Haller with 12 digs. Yasmeen Chan had seven.

Maryville hit at a .257 clip for the match, while holding Methodist to only a .020 effort. The Scots forced 35 Monarch errors in the sweep.

Brittany Ter Meer had eight kills to lead Methodist, while Maggie Harris had 21 of the Monarchs 23 assists. Autumn Elder had 11 digs to lead the USA South foe.

In the second match of the night, the Scots downed William Peace University, 3-1. The Scots took the match by the scores of 25-22, 18-25, 25-15, 26-24.

Maryville trailed 15-17 late in the fourth set, but the Scots went on a 4-0 run to take the lead. Kori Jacot tallied a kill, followed by a block solo to give Maryville a 19-17 advantage. However, following two Scots' errors, the Pacers tied the match at 22-all. The teams traded points to a 24-24 tie, before two huge kills by Vineyard gave Maryville the win, 26-24.

Maryville was led by Vineyard's 16 kills, as she hit .382 for the match. She had one assist and four blocks against William Peace.

Haller found her third double-double of the four-match weekend with 13 kills and 11 digs. She had one assist and three blocks.

McDaniel, the standout freshman, had her third double-double, as well, as she tallied 41 assist, just behind her career high of 44. She also had a career high 17 digs to go with three aces and a kill.

Sidner had eight kills and nine digs, while Kaitlyn Flickinger had 14 digs. Chan added 10 digs, while matching McDaniel with three aces.

For the Pacers, it was Mya Parks that tallied 16 kills and 13 digs. She had one assist, one ace and one block. Tempestt Frazier had 10 kills, while Liana Solomon (32) and Courtney Atkinson (10) finished the day with double-digit assists. Solomon had five service aces for the Pacers, as Laura Bland led the way with 19 digs. Solomon finished her double-double with 17 digs, as well.

Maryville will have a week off, before taking to the road to face a quad of USA South foes. Maryville will face N.C. Wesleyan College (1 p.m.) and Mary Baldwin University (3 p.m.) on Friday, Sept. 30 in Rocky Mount, N.C. On Saturday, the Scots will travel to Raleigh, N.C. to face Meredith College (1 p.m.) and Ferrum College (3 p.m.).
