Maryville College earned its fifth-straight USA South victory on Friday night, as the Scots downed both N.C. Wesleyan College and Mary Baldwin University.
MC defeated N.C. Wesleyan, 3-0, in the first match of the day, before taking down the Fighting Squirrels, 3-1.
The pair of victories move the Scots to 10-8 overall, as MC holds a 5-1 record in conference action. The Scots are currently ranked as the No. 1 team in the Western Division, as defending USA South Champions Covenant College ranks second with a 4-2 mark.
MC's five-straight victories currently ranks as tied for the best streak within the conference with Averett University and Meredith College.
Maryville College was led by senior Abrianna Jones and freshman Brianne Sidner as the duo combined for 24 of the Scots' 39 kills in the first match of the day. The pair helped Maryville to their fifth sweep in seven matches with a 25-19, 25-12, 27-25.
Jones had 12 kills on the afternoon, while posting four digs for the Scots. Sidner followed suit with 12 of her own, as she hit .323 in the match. The freshman had three digs, two block assists and a service ace in the match.
Freshman and reigning USA South Rookie of the Week and Tennessee Sports Writers Association Player of the Week, Saidee McDaniel posted another double-double one the evening.
McDaniel had a game-high 27 assists to go with 10 digs. She had one service ace, while tallying two block assists. The freshman has eight double-doubles this season, as she's had five in the Scots' last six matches with three straight stretching back to last weekend.
Kaitlyn Flickinger led the defense with 14 digs, as she added six assists to go with a service ace, while Nia Haller had eight digs. Haller had three service aces, as she was bested by only Allison Botts' four-ace performance. On the evening, Maryville tallied 11 aces against the Battling Bishops.
Botts also had seven digs.
N.C. Wesleyan was led by Tori Stewart's 10 kills, as Ashley Williams had eight.
Haleigh Riesenbeck had 22 assists, while Christina Huber had a game-high 19 digs.
Maryville won their second match of the day, this time over Mary Baldwin University, by a score of 3-1. The Scots knocked off the Fighting Squirrels, 21-25, 25-22, 25-16, 25-8.
Maryville saw Haller come through big with a double-double during the second match, as the junior posted a game-high 14 kills. She had 10 digs to go with two service aces, a block and an assist. Haller hit an incredible .481 for the match.
Botts had 10 kills, recording five digs and an ace, while Kelley Wandell had eight kills.
Madison Wilkerson led Maryville during the second match with 22 assists. Taylor Youell had 13 assists, while Flickinger led the Maryville defense with 22 digs. She had three aces, as well.
Mackenzie Marcrum's nine digs trailed Haller's 10, as Wilkerson tallied seven.
For Mary Baldwin, it was Katelyn Rice that had 14 kills. She had a double-double behind 13 digs, as she trailed only Xenna Belfield's 16. Reilly Kelly had 25 assists for the Fighting Squirrels.
The Scots will travel to Raleigh, N.C. tomorrow for a USA South quad match. Maryville will face Meredith at 1 p.m., before taking on Ferrum College at 3 p.m.
