Scots sweep Scotties with 11 blocks, 8 aces

Maryville College picked up their first USA South Athletic Conference victory on Saturday afternoon, as the Scots dominated Agnes Scott College, 3-0.

MC took the conference victory in a trio of sets, 25-14, 25-10, 25-13.

The Orange and Garnet dominated at the net with 11 blocks in the match, as the tallied eight service aces.

Dejane Hester-Taylor led the way with six kills and five blocks with a .385 hitting percentage, as Arin Wyttenbach had four kills and six blocks at a .333 clip.

Maryville (3-5, 1-1 USA South) jumped out to an early 8-0 lead, as Hannah Potts had a pair of kills and a block. Wyttenbach added two blocks and a kill in the rally to force a Scotties timeout.

Agnes Scott (2-10, 0-1) rallied for five straight, as Maryville would use multiple rallies of three and four straight to pull away for the 25-14 first-set victory.

MC hit .258 for the first set, as the Scots held the Scotties to just five kills on a negative .042.

The Scots rallied again in the second set for a 7-0 lead, as Meredith Bonee posted a pair of service aces in the opening rally.

The Scotties cut it to 13-6, but an eight-point run by the Scots would put it out of reach in the second set. Hester-Taylor would have two kills and a block in the run, 21-6.

Bonee and Madison Wilkerson would throw down the final two kills in the set for a 25-10 victory.

Agnes Scott would make it a closer rally in the third, tying the set a nine-all. Maryville scored 16 of the next 18 points to pull away. MacKenzie Marcrum's service aces on match points gave the Scots the 3-0 shutout.

Maryville hit .225 for the match, as they held the Scotties to a negative .114 clip.

Bonee followed Hester-Taylor and Wyttenbach with 13 assists, four kills, three digs, a block and a service ace. Wilkerson hit .364 for the match with six kills, three digs, an ace and an assist. Brianne Sidner had four kills, three digs, two aces and a block, as Linnea Liebert had a trio of blocks with a kill.

Marcrum tallied the game-winning ace, while she led the defense with nine digs. Allison Botts had five digs, while Taylor Youell added four with six assists.

Agnes Scott saw Musumaulai Galoia and Paige Heck each record four kills, as Bella Kammerer had 11 of the Scotties 13 assists. Tiara White (10) and Morgan Pearson (11) each had double-digit digs.

Maryville will host Johnson University at 2 p.m. for their second match of the day.
