Box Score Maryville College's Johnny Rakhmonberdiev secured a brace before Ndubueze Henry deposited the eventual game-winning goal as the Scots' men's soccer team defeated Methodist University 3-2 during a Homecoming challenge on Saturday afternoon.
Rakhmonberdiev blasted a penalty kick into the upper left of the net in the 19th minute to give MC a 1-0 advantage. The left-footed strike was his 5th goal of the season.
Maryville went to the intermission with a 1-0 advantage outshooting the Monarchs 11-1.
Rakhmonberdiez drilled his second goal of the match in the 60th minute. Ndubueze Henry directed a short cross and Johnny placed a left-footed strike into the top right corner to give MC a 2-0 lead.
The Scots went up 3-0 when Rakhmonberdiev sent a pass – his conference leading 10th assist- and Ndubueze Henry ripped off his second goal of the season for the eventual game-winner.
With a 3-0 advantage, Methodist had a late rally in the 88th minute when Rylan Hoerning hit the back of the net with a pair of headers beating MC keeper Luke Semann. The first assist belonged to Zach Woolard while the second assist was a pass from Cameron Wilson.
The win advances Maryville to 10-5 overall and 8-2 in USA South play. Methodist falls to 3-10-1 and 1-9-1 in conference challenges.
Maryville will host North Carolina Wesleyan on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. to culminate 2019 Homecoming activities over the historic bicentennial weekend.
