Box Score Maryville College opened USA South Athletic Conference play on Saturday afternoon, as the Scots recorded 20 aces in a 3-0 sweep of Agnes Scott.
Eight different Scots – led by Saidee McDaniel and Meredith Bonee – recorded aces on the afternoon, as the victory is MC's ninth of the 2019 campaign.
Each of those victories come by 3-0 scores, as Saturday's sweep over the Scotties was 25-14, 25-11, 25-12.
Dejane Hester-Taylor had eight kills, while Arin Wyttenbach added seven of her own. In all, 10 Scots recorded kills in the conference opener.
Maryville hit .238 as a squad, while totaling just 13 attack errors. The Scots held Agnes Scott to a .147 hitting effort on the day.
Agnes Scott got the scoring going in the first set, as Tiara White recorded a kill. MC retaliated, however, posting the next five points and their first ace of the contest. Wyttebach and Maggie Mathews posted a kill each, before Brianne Sidner earned the first service point of the match.
The Scots rallied from that momentum for a 12-5 lead early, as Mathews posted a pair of aces for herself. A Wyttenbach kills and two aces by McDaniel extended the Scots' lead to 17-9, before Rhianna Tyldesley posted three-straight aces for a 21-9 advantage. In all, Maryville College had eight aces for a 25-14 victory, as they set the tone early.
A pair of McDaniel aces opened the second set with a 4-0 MC rally, before Agnes Scott cut it to two, 6-4. Hester-Taylor and Madison Wilkerson recorded kills, as Wilkerson found an ace to extend the Scots' lead to 11-5.
McDaniel added her fifth ace of the match to lead Maryville on another run, 16-7, as Hester-Taylor, Wyttenbach and Wilkerson traded kills. Bonee posted a pair of aces, before Wilkerson's ace ended the set, 25-11.
To open the third set, the two squads went back-and-forth for a 7-6 MC lead. Bonee added two aces to break a 4-4 tie, as the Scots broke free. Allison Botts had a pair of aces to spur an 11-2 run, as MacKenzie Marcrum made the score 20-10 on an ace of her own.
Hester-Taylor posted back-to-back kills for the 25-12 victory.
Maryville College (9-6, 1-0 USA South) was led by Hester-Taylor who had eight kills at a .538 kill percentage. She added a dig, while Wyttenbach added seven kills at a .600 kill percentage. She also had a dig and a block assists.
McDaniel had a match-high 20 assists and five aces. She added a kill and two block assists, as Bonee added nine assists, five digs, four aces and a kill. Tyldesley had nine digs, three kills and three aces, as Botts had two aces. Mathews had five digs, four kills, two aces, an assist and a block, while Wilkerson had two aces, two kills and a dig. Marcrum and Sidner added an ace each in the 20-ace effort.
Agnes Scott College (0-9, 0-1) was paced by White's 10 kills, six digs and three assists. Caroline Irving had 13 assists, while she and Ahmanie Guillaume had seven digs each.
