Box Score 2 Scots Handle LaGrange, Brevard
LaGRANGE, Ga. – The pressure was on Maryville to produce on the road and they did just that, sweeping a pair of 3-0 matches Saturday at LaGrange.
The Scots first took down the host Panthers 25-12, 25-15 and 25-12. Then Maryville handled Brevard on the neutral court by a 25-19, 25-15 and 25-13 score line.
Maryville needed both wins to stay perfect atop the USA South conference standings at 6-0, just ahead of Covenant at 4-1 and Berea at 3-1. The Scots have won six in a row and nine of their last 10 to improve to 10-7 overall. By the end of the day, LaGrange stood at 1-11 and 1-4, while Brevard was at 3-12 and 2-3.
Meredith Bonee was solid on the assist line, contributing 27 and 29, respectively, in the two matches. It capped a fine week for the Knoxville senior, who averaged 9.3 assists per set to go with three service aces, 16 digs and four blocks.
Isabella Samson posted 11 kills versus LaGrange and led the team with 18 for the day. Reese Bailey came up big with nine kills against Brevard and finished her day with 11.
Emily Rogers and Natalie Watts led the team in digs with 15 apiece. Rogers had eight in the opener and Watts contributed 10 in the nightcap.
The Scots step out of league play with a Wednesday visit to Sewanee, starting at 6 p.m. Central time. The Tigers knocked off Maryville 3-2 in Rome, Georgia, back on Sept. 3.
Then it's a home date next Saturday against both Huntingdon and Piedmont. A tripleheader of matches begins at noon inside Boydson H. Baird Gymnasium.
