Scots Take 81-73 Win Over Tigers

Box Score

Maryville's Record Remains Unblemished

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Four Scots scored in double figures as Maryville notched a third straight win with an 81-73 road victory over Sewanee on Tuesday night.

The Scots controlled the game early on with a Jekobe Coleman 3-pointer at 13:05 of the first half giving Maryville the lead for good in the Tuesday night contest.

A few minutes later the lead grew to 10 later in the opening half when Felix Uadiale followed a made layup with a slam dunk to put the Scots up 30-20.

Uadiale also shined on defense as he blocked two shots in the contest.

The Tigers used an 8-0 run to pull within two with a little over six minutes remaining in the first. The run helped the home team stay close as the score going into the half was 43-38 in favor of the Scots.

Maryville turned in an 8-0 run of their own to open the second half of the game. Three layups kicked off the scoring in the final half and a Nicholas Clifton dunk put the exclamation point on the offensive streak.

"Our first unit started the second half really well," said Placeres. "It went from a five-point game at halftime up to 15 pretty quickly, and that was the difference in the ballgame. They had to play from behind, and our press against their lack of depth had an impact."

In the end, the Scots picked up the 81-73 win.

Reserves Step Up

The Maryville bench contributed 33 of the points for the Scots compared to the four provided by the opposition's reserves. Jekobe Coleman went 3-3 from behind the arch for the Scots and notched 12 points while Kordell Kah had 13 on 5-8 shooting.

"Our bench also was really good tonight. Jekobe Coleman, Kordell Kah, Daryl Rice, Brandon Jones and Dalton Coleman gave us some great minutes," added Placeres.

Myles Rasnick led the Scots with 16 points and three assists.

Sewanee was led by Colin Kahl who had 26 points followed by Blake Bouldin with 13.

"It's great to get to 3-0 early in the season, and I believe that's 10 consecutive road wins in the regular season," said Placeres. "That's tough to do, so we are thankful to get this win tonight.

Now we've got two pivotal South Region games coming up for us. We will have to play better because we'll be challenged by one of the SAA's top teams in Oglethorpe and one of the top 15 teams in the country in Emory. I'm looking forward to the guys having a couple of days off for Thanksgiving and then we will get after it this weekend."

Maryville returns to action over the weekend with two games in Atlanta. The team opens the weekend Saturday when they take on the 4-1 Stormy Petrels of Oglethorpe. On Sunday the Scots face No. 13 Emory who sits at 1-2 before their Saturday tilt with Guilford.
