Box Score Samson, Wallet Combine for 25 Kills
MARYVILLE – Maryville College picked up its third-straight win on Saturday morning, as the Scots swept William Peace University in the USA South Crossover Tournament, 3-0.
MC hit .323 against the Pacers, adding in nine total blocks and five service aces. Isabella Samson led the way, tossing down 13 kills, three aces and a pair of solo blocks in the win.
The Scots took the sweep by the scores of 25-23, 25-13, 25-17.
In the opening set, the Scots battled for a two-point victory late. MC jumped to a 16-7 lead on four kills by Brooklyn Wallet, as Samson added three kills and a pair of aces.
William Peace mounted a 8-1 rally, cutting the score to as close as 19-18 on a Kelsey Bierbauer kill. The Scots held on down the stretch, as Samson threw down her third ace for the set clincher.
Wallet had an impressive eight kills in the opening set, hitting .545, while Meredith Bonee added 15 assists and a pair of kills.
Maryville had their best set of the match, hitting .387 in the second for a 25-13 victory. Aided by a 7-0 run in the middle of the set, the Scots cruised.
Samson found six kills, as Morgan Smithson added a trio. MC found five blocks in the decisive set, a pair each coming from Wallet and Smithson.
The Orange and Garnet finished the third set hitting .265 as a squad, spreading 15 kills amongst five players.
The sweep moves MC's record to 4-6, as the Pacers fall to 4-7 on the year.
Samson led the squad with her 13 kills, as Wallet added a dozen with four total blocks. Landry Frish had eight kills and 10 digs, while Bailey Reese added six kills.
Bonee added 37 assists to go with four kills, three digs and a pair of blocks, as Natalie Watts led the defense with 13 total digs.
For William Peace, it was Hannah Collier with 10 kills. Logan Moore added a double-double, leading the team in both assists and digs, 17-11.
MC rounded out the USA South Crossover against Pfeiffer University later in the afternoon.
