Scots Record Fourth-Straight Shutout

Maryville Starts Second Half With Big Road Victory

JACKSON, Miss. -- Maryville defeated Mississippi University for Women 3-0 on Friday and has now won four-straight matches. The Scots have built plenty of momentum as they return to conference play on Saturday.

Maryville handled the Owls with relative ease, winning by set scores of 25-15, 25-19, and 25-19. Through all three sets, there were just 11 ties and 5 lead changes.

The first set was back and forth early with the Scots quickly taking a 2-0 lead before the Owls tied it up. The match would continue like that until it was all tied up at 9-9. From there Maryville would go on a 16-6 run. Maryville would take the first set on a huge block from Amii Ingalls.

Set number two was a different story. While the final score was closer, Maryville was in control of this match from almost the beginning. The Owls jumped out to an early 3-1 lead, but Maryville bounced back almost immediately. The Scots would score eight points in a row, giving them a lead that they wouldn't lose. Hannah Potts led the way for Maryville in this set, finishing with three service aces, two kills, and a block.

In the third set, Maryville dominated early. They pulled ahead 21-12 and looked to be heading toward an easy win. The Owls wouldn't go down without a fight though scoring five straight and eventually closing the gap to 22-18. From there the Scots scored three of the last four points, completing the shutout in Jackson, Mississippi.

As a team, the Scots posted a hitting percentage of .100 with 30 kills to the Owls -.034 with 21 kills. Landry Frisch led the squad in both kills and digs with nine and 15, respectively. She also tied Potts for the lead in service aces with three.
