Maryville Earns Share of CCS Regular Season Crown

Big Game from Smoot Lifts Scots 4-0 Past Panthers

LaGRANGE, Ga. - Hannah Smoot picked up two goals and two assists for the Scots as Maryville defeated LaGrange 4-0 on Saturday afternoon.

After the game, the team learned of Belhaven's late home loss to Covenant that vaulted the Scots into a share of the Collegiate Conference of the South regular season title.

The Scots wasted no time taking an early lead Saturday as Sierra Lee scored the first goal of the contest in just the 4th minute of play. Smoot picked up her first assist of the night on the goal.

Lee would strike again in the 21st minute, this time assisted by Smoot and Hailey Cartt. On the season, she leads all CCS goal scorers with 12.

After two assists in the first half, Smoot decided it was her turn to find the back of the net. She scored her first goal of the night just six minutes into the second half, making it 3-0.

Smoot capped off her big night in the 61st minute, scoring an unassisted goal to give Maryville a 4-0 lead. With six goals on the season, she now sits behind Lee (12) and Katie O'Brien (7), for third on the Scots in goals scored.

Maryville outshot the Panthers 23-4 and maintained a 6-1 edge in corner kicks as well.

Coming into today's contest, Sophie Turner had 63 saves on the season. With four saves in today's contest, she finishes the season with 67 saves, a new career high for the junior goalkeeper.
