Maryville Drops Tough Matchup at Home

Despite Dominate Third Set, Scots Unable to Pick Up Win at Home

MARYVILLE – Maryville fought hard but once again found themselves on the losing end, dropping the mid-week matchup against conference foe Covenant 3-1.
 
The set scores were 24-26, 27-29, 25-8, and 23-25. The Scots attacked at .179 and recorded 62 kills compared to a .154 attack and 43 kills for Covenant.
 
The first set was extremely competitive with 12 ties and five lead changes. Early in the match, the Scots found themselves with a 10-5 lead, but Covenant went on a 6-1 run tying the game at 11 apiece. From there, it was back-and-forth action all the way, with neither team gaining a lead of more than two points for the rest of the set.

Once again in the second set, thte Scots found themselves in a tight race, this time with 10 ties and six lead changes. Covenant jumped out to an early lead, scoring the first three points of the match before Maryville clawed back to tie it at three apiece. Neither team held a lead larger than three points for the entirety of the set. Covenant won the second set 29-27.
 
After dropping the first two sets the Scots dominated the third, scoring the first eight points. Covenant scored the next two points making it 8-2 but would be outscored by Maryville 17-6 for the rest of the set, finishing with a final score of 25-8.

The fourth set was a copy of the first two, with the Scots returning to earth for another competitive set and losing by just two points. This set saw 13 ties and seven lead changes. Maryville found itself ahead 23-22 but dropped the next three points, allowing Covenant to win the set and the match 3-1.

Meredith Bonee recorded her seventh double-double of the year, posting a season-high 51 assists and 12 digs.
 
Amii Ingals and Isabella Samson led Maryville with 16 kills apiece, each recording a double-double of their own, posting 15 and 17 digs respectively.
 
Maryville is now 9-8 overall and 3-3 in the CCS. The Scots look to shake off the loss as they prepare for a Friday doubleheader against LaGrange and Agnes Scott in LaGrange, Georgia, starting at noon.
