ROME, Ga. – Berry's Lyndsey Francingues found the net with the game's only goal in the 66th minute to deal a 1-0 setback to Maryville on Friday night.
The goal by Francingues was her first of the season and came unassisted.
The host Vikings outshot Maryville 19-4, although shots on goal showed a narrower 4-2 margin. Berry also had a 6-2 edge in corners. Possession time favored Berry by 51 percent to 49 percent.
For the Scots, who came into this week ranked seventh in the region by UnitedSoccerCoaches.org,
Hannah Smoot and
Sierra Lee put shots on the net in the opening five minutes.
Katie O'Brien struck the crossbar in the 38th minute to just miss giving the Scots a 1-0 lead, but Lee's shot attempt that missed to the right in the 67th minute was Maryville's only other real chance.

Maryville is back in action Sunday in the first match of a women's-men's doubleheader at Birmingham-Southern. The women's match begins at noon Central time.
