MARYVILLE – Maryville posted its best start to a season since 2009 and then saw its four-game winning streak come to an end, all on the same day.
The Scots knocked off Sewanee 3-0 in Saturday's first match but then couldn't find an answer for Rhodes in the nightcap. Maryville's 4-0 start to the campaign was the program's best since the 2009 team began 8-0.
Maryville handled the Tigers 25-15, 25-20 and 25-17, attacking at .281 to Sewanee's .146. The Scots posted 40 kills, led by 10 from
Amii Ingalls and nine by
Landry Frisch.
Meredith Bonee just missed a double-double with 30 assists and nine digs.
There were six ties and three lead changes in each of the first two sets. In Set 3, Sewanee forged a 9-9 tie before the Scots hit another gear and finished on a 16-8 run.
Rhodes finished the weekend 4-0. Against the Scots, the Lynx swept the match but all three sets were competitive in a 25-20, 25-22 and 25-20 score line.
Maryville held Rhodes to a .173 attack percentage but could muster only a .081 percentage of its own. The Lynx posted 39 kills to Maryville's 29.
Bonee had a double-double with 21 assists and 10 digs.
Hannah Potts contributed a team-leading seven kills and
Isabella Samson added six.
The Scots are back in action Friday at the Meredith/William Peace Tournament in Raleigh, North Carolina. Maryville takes on Brevard and Meredith on Friday before meeting Pfeiffer and William Peace on Saturday.
