Maryville Splits Final Home Tri-Match of the Season

Scots Defeat Wesleyan but Fall to Huntingdon at Home

Maryville – Maryville picked up a split in its final tri-match of the 2023 season Friday at the Cooper Athletic Center,  defeating Wesleyan 3-0 while falling to Huntingdon by the same score.

The Scots dropped the first match against Huntingdon by set scores of 25-20, 25-12 and 25-16 before taking down Wesleyan 25-17, 25-15, and 25-20. MC now sits at 14-12 on the season with a 9-4 record in conference play.

Despite Maryville's tough loss to the Hawks, Maryville sits at 24-3 against Huntingdon dating back to 2011.

The Scots are now 10-0 all-time against Wesleyan and have still never lost a set to the Wolves, winning 30 straight dating back to their first matchup in 2016.

Maryville dominated the first set against Wesleyan, starting with a 4-0 run and holding onto the lead throughout to win 25-17.

Maryville led the entire second set as well, but this one was much closer, with the Scots sitting ahead by just two points just over midway through the match at 14-12. From there, MC scored the next six points and outscored the Wolves 10-3 to take the second set 25-15.

In the third set, Wesleyan scored first to pick up its first lead of the match. The two squads then traded points until it was 4-4. From there the Wolves went on a 6-1 run to take a 10-5 lead. Maryville would tie the game once again, scoring the next five points to make it 10-10.

Like earlier in the set, Wesleyan would go ahead again, leading by as much as 17-13 late in the match. The Scots finally put the nail in the coffin after going on a 13-3 run to close out the contest and take the set 25-20.

Hannah Kammer led the Scots with 15 kills in the match. She was followed by Addie Smith (10) and Reese Bailey (9), who attacked at .533, and .571 percent, respectively.

Libero Ally Sokolow led the way with 16 digs while Dakota Vaiese (22) and Ella Reyes (17) were the Maryville leaders in assists for the match.

The Scots are back at the Cooper Athletic Center Tuesday for their final home match of the 2023 season. Maryville faces off against Covenant at 6:30 p.m.
