ATLANTA – A tested Emory squad dealt Maryville a 5-0 defeat in a midweek tuneup for the Scots ahead of their Collegiate Conference of the South tournament opener.
Maryville takes on Agnes Scott on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the CCS tournament quarterfinals. Agnes Scott defeated Wesleyan 2-1 Tuesday afternoon in the 8 vs. 9 match.
The contest at Emory belonged to the Eagles, with the home side scoring two times in the first half and three in the second. Emory outshot Maryville 32-11 and worked its way to five corner kicks against two for the Scots. Ball possession favored Emory by 57 percent to 43 percent.
CCS Offensive Player of the Year
Hannah Smoot had the most success with four shot attempts, forcing a pair of saves.

Sophie Turner made five saves in taking her second loss of the season. She stands at 8-2-3.
Maryville saw its seven-match winning streak halted, with the Scots now 12-3-3. Emory improved to 8-4-3. Mia Han paced the home side with two goals and an assist.
