Scots Breeze 8-0 Past Wesleyan

Corley’s Natural Hat Trick Highlights Second Half

MACON, Ga. – Katie Corley scored a natural hat trick in the second half and Maryville cruised to an 8-0 victory over Wesleyan on Thursday afternoon.
 
The Scots with the victory improved to 6-2-3 overall and 2-0-1 in the Collegiate Conference of the South. Maryville sits in third place behind Belhaven (5-0-0 and Piedmont (3-1-0), two teams still ahead on the regular season schedule.
 
Corley scored her goals in the 70th, 72nd and 75th minutes to make the score 7-0. Corley with the flurry increased her season goal total to four. Sadie Phelan added the final tally for the Scots, who scored six times in the second half after leading 2-0 at intermission.
 
Hannah Smoot began the scoring with an unassisted goal in the 32nd minute. It was her team-leading sixth of the season. Smoot then set up Sierra Lee for her fifth goal of the year, a strike in the 40th minute that led to the halftime score of 2-0.
 
Anabelle Procter then scored the next two in the 58th and 62nd minutes to double the Maryville lead and set the stage for Corley to compile her hat trick. Macy Lindsey, Meghan Kimbirl and Madison McDonald all had assists in the second half.
 
Sydney Mahr earned the win in goal, improving to 3-1-0 this season. The Scots outshot the Wolves 34-0, with Wesleyan's Angel Lockett making 18 saves.
 
Maryville is right back to it Saturday at home against Huntingdon (4-6-1, 2-2-0). Start time from the MC Soccer Complex is 5 p.m.
