MC Bounces Back With Big Win Over Transylvania

Scots defeat Transy 10-0 in Seven Innings

MARYVILLE – After suffering their first two losses of the season in the Greensboro Invitational, Maryville bounced back on Wednesday to pick up a convincing 10-0 victory over Transylvania at Scotland Yard.

The Scots picked up 11 hits en route to their mercy rule victory. Four players picked up multiple knocks, with Jacob Johnston, Christian Carlton, Ashton Whiteaker, and Hunter Thaxton each leading the squad with two hits apiece.

Seven of the Scots' 11 hits went for extra bases, with Carlton's three-run homer in the seventh acting as a walk-off with the 10-run rule coming into effect. Carlton finished the contest 2-for-4 with the homer, a season-high five RBIs, a run scored, and a walk.

Bryce Einstein picked up his first win of the season in the contest. The junior entered the game in the second inning, and pitched four scoreless innings, allowing just four hits and a walk, while striking out one batter. His four innings pitched marks a career-high for the righty.

Whiteaker kicked off the scoring for Maryville in the second inning, hitting an RBI double to score Jimmy Meredith and put MC ahead 1-0 early.

The Scots picked up two more in the third inning. Johnston came around to score on an error by the pitcher when attempting to pick Graham off. Whiteaker came through again in the third, this time scoring Graham on a single up the middle to make it 3-0.

The Scots scored three more in the fourth inning on an RBI double from Gabriel Lopez, and then a two-RBI single from Carlton that scored Johnston and Lopez.

MC was held scoreless for two innings before a seventh-inning outburst put them over the top. Carter Crow came around to score his first run of the season on a single from Johnston, and then Carlton finished up the game with his walk-off three-run homer.

Brandon Schlabach pitched a season-high two scoreless innings, allowing just one hit while striking out a batter.
