Maryville Drops Final Game at Huntingdon

Scots Fall 10-6; Look to Rebound Tuesday at Roanoke

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Huntingdon recorded a six-run eighth inning to complete the sweep against Maryville in a 10-6 victory on Sunday.

Will Hubbell continued swinging a hot bat for Maryville (14-8, 0-6 CCS) on Sunday, picking up two hits and launching his first home run of the season, and his first since the shortened 2020 campaign, which was his freshman season. Hubbell now has multiple hits in three-straight games and has picked up two or more knocks in four of the six games he has been in the starting lineup. He is batting .448 on the year (13-for-29).

Just like Saturday's contest, the Hawks outhit MC 11-8 while recording four errors for the second-consecutive game, allowing the Scots to score two of their six runs unearned. Both of Maryville's unearned runs came in the ninth inning.

The Scots looked to be building the momentum for an epic comeback in the final inning, scoring two runs and loading the bases, bringing the tying run up to the plate. The game would conclude there though, as MC left three more runners on base to end the game, bringing their total for the contest to 12.

Huntingdon took a 3-0 lead early in the contest before Maryville countered with a four-run inning in the third to take a 4-3 lead. Christian Carlton, who was playing third base for the first time this year kicked off the scoring for the Scots with a two-RBI single to right field which allowed Gabriel Lopez and Zach Fritts to come around and score. The very next batter, Hubbell deposited a ball over the left field fence to give Maryville the lead.

Huntingdon tied the game up in the seventh before exploding for six runs in the Seventh, taking the lead for keeps and completing the sweep over Maryville.

Mitchell Grannan got the start for Maryville on Sunday. The sophomore pitched six innings, allowing three runs on four hits while striking out four batters. Grannan leads the Scots with 37 strikeouts despite ranking fourth on the squad in innings pitched (22.2), good for a K/9 of 14.7.

MC continues its eight-game road trip on Tuesday with a non-conference matchup against Roanoke. First pitch for that contest is scheduled for 3 p.m.
