MARYVILLE – Jimmy Meredith delivered seven of Maryville's 11 runs on the day, as Maryville slugged their way to an 11-8 victory over No. 13 LaGrange here on Saturday.
Senior Day Celebration
Before the game began, Maryville celebrated senior day, honoring its seven seniors and their accomplishments as Maryville College student-athletes.

Hit Parade
Meredith drove in a team-high four runs in the contest while also scoring three of his own. The senior went 2-for-4 with two doubles and a walk. He did so while starting at shortstop for the first time this season.
Both teams put together strong performances on the offensive side of the ball. Maryville picked up 13 hits while batting .361 (13-for-36) as a squad. LaGrange racked up 16 hits in 43 at-bats, good for a batting average of .372.
The Scots have recorded 10 or more hits in seven straight games, and 10 of their last 11, dating back to April 4, against Huntingdon.
MC had five players record multiple hits in the contest, led by
Hunter Thaxton who went 3-for-5 with a double, and two RBIs.
While both teams put on an offensive showcase, the defense struggled. Both squads recorded three errors in the matchup. Maryville scored 11 runs, eight of which were earned, and LaGrange scored eight runs, six earned.
Back-and-Forth Action
The Scots scored first in the matchup when
Ashton Whiteaker drove in
Will Hubbell with an RBI double to take a 1-0 lead in the second inning.
The Panthers answered back quickly in the third on an RBI double from Joe Ruth, tying it 1-1.
Maryville went on to score three more runs in the bottom of the third, two runs in the fifth, and four more in the sixth inning. Heading into the eighth inning, MC had a 10-3 lead.
LaGrange wouldn't go down without a fight though, scoring four runs in the eighth and one in the ninth before
Chris Arbuthnot closed out the contest, and the final score read 11-8.
Kyle Timko earned the win in the contest, pitching five innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on eight hits while striking out four batters.
Arbuthnot recorded his first save of the season, pitching 1 2/3, allowing one run on three hits. He becomes the fifth Maryville pitcher to record a save this season.
The Scots are 1-1 in the series against LaGrange. The two squads are set to meet one more time on Sunday at Scotland Yard to decide the winner of the series. The rubber game is scheduled for 1 p.m.
