ROME, Ga. – Maryville is moving on to the semi-finals of the CCS Women's Tennis Championship tournament after defeating Agnes Scott 5-2 at the Rome Indoor Tennis Center.
Maryville took two of the three doubles matches. On the No. 1 court,
Katelyn Cook and Elizabeth swept their opponents with an 8-0 victory.
Abby Diggs and
Eliza Cheshire also put together a strong showing at No. 2 doubles, picking up an 8-2 victory.
Maryville picked up singles wins at No. 1, No. 3, and No. 4 to reach the necessary five points to pick up the win and move on to the next round. At No. 1,
Katelyn Cook recorded set wins of 6-0 and 6-3 to pick up the victory.
Elizabeth Shwaiko was dominant on the No. 3 court, winning 6-0, 6-1. Clinching the victory for the Scots on the No. 4 court was senior
Eliza Cheshire, who defeated her opponent by scores of 6-2 and 6-4.
"Good job by our girls to take care of business today," Maryville head coach
Doug Corbett said. "They are a very coachable and hard-working bunch, so I am happy for them to be rewarded for it! Was awesome for our senior Eliza to be the clinching match to get the win. Excited for the challenge of playing Covenant in the semis tomorrow."
The Scots improved to 8-10 on the season and are back in action tomorrow to take on No. 2 seed Covenant.
Maryville and Covenant faced off in a rematch of the final regular season contest of the season, where Covenant walked away with a 9-0 victory.
