WHEATON, Ill – Maryville was defeated by Aurora 3-0 on Day 1 of the Marilyn Scribner invitational hosted by Wheaton.
The Scots fell by set scores of 25-17, 25-14, and 25-18.
Hannah Kammer and
Addie Smith led the way for the Scots, picking up seven kills each.
Cailin Mastropasqua was right behind the duo with six.
Kenzie Brewster led the Scots in hitting percentage, recording a kill on five of her seven total swings with no errors, to post a .714. Kammer was second in that category, attacking at a .462 clip.
In the first game of her collegiate career,
Ella Reyes tied with Smith for the Scots lead in assists with 13. Reyes appeared in all three sets and also recorded three digs.
Ally Sokolow led Maryville in digs, picking up 17. The sophomore libero has now recorded double digit-digs in every game this season.
Aurora held the offensive advantage throughout the three sets, picking up 39 kills to Maryville's 33, attacking at a .407 clip compared to .244 for the Scots. The Spartans also recorded 14 service aces, while MC recorded just four.
Maryville is back in action Saturday with back-to-back matches against Concordia Chicago and Illinois Tech. The first match is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. Central.
