MARYVILLE—Maryville served up the senior special here Saturday afternoon with sweeps over LaGrange and Agnes Scott.
The Scots took down the Panthers with set scores of 25-18, 25-20, and 25-14. Later, making quick work of Agnes Scott, they won 25-10, 25-22, and 25-16.
Maryville was dominant in the first and third sets against LaGrange, with the only trouble coming in Set 2. That set featured seven lead changes and seven ties. LaGrange took a short-lived 1-0 lead before a 3-0 run by the Scots. The Panthers fought back, grabbing the lead at 4-3 and holding it until Maryville tied things up at 9-9 with a 6-0 run behind the serving of
Megan Fairburn. LaGrange edged ahead again at 18-17, but a 6-0 run served by
Cailin Mastropasqua put the Scots up 23-20. LaGrange added a quick point before
Reese Bailey ended the set with a service ace.
Senior
Hannah Kammer was the story of Match 1 with 11 kills, one ace, and three digs. Kammer was a constant threat, staying on the court for all three sets. She added three kills and seven digs in the second match, continuing her strong play.
"I'm happy my team showed up for me on Senior Day," Kammer said. "I just feel really blessed to be here and healthy enough to play. I think the consistency and hard work I've put in has shown, and I'm just glad I got to display it all in front of my friends and family."
Kenzie Brewster also had a strong match, tying
Reese Bailey for second on the kills leaderboard with eight and posting a .636 attack percentage.
Seniors Show Out
All five Maryville seniors contributed in the second match as Maryville breezed past Agnes Scott.
Reese Bailey led the way with 12 kills, three digs, and a block.
Landry Frisch was right behind her with 11 kills, four digs and a block.
Kayli Altom contributed seven kills.
Brewster rounded out the senior group with five kills and a block.
"Our seniors did a really nice job of handling business today," Scots head coach
Brienna Laskowski said. "All of our offensive fire power stems from those five, and when they are on, they are hard to stop."
Maryville improved its record to 13-7 and 6-2 in conference play. MC is on the road Wednesday with a 6:30 p.m. match versus Covenant (12-10, 6-2).
